What is this Therapeutic order?

Basically, it’s an outline of how ND’s work to resolve symptoms and optimize health using the least force necessary.

Yes, when someone comes in with debilitating pain I am going to offer them some sort of remedy or intervention to make life more comfortable – but my goal is to make it so they do not need that remedy forever!

Often when a patient comes in they want to jump all the way up the pyramid to the symptom relief tiers. I don’t blame you for wanting relief – I want you to feel better too – but Naturopathic Medicine is not just about exchanging “natural treatments” for synthetic or pharmaceutical treatments.

Trading one type of symptom relief for another does not equate to treatment to me, they are bandaids or a crutch. A treatment to me represents a method of problem resolution.

In order to resolve a problem we need to address it from all angles, and we need to optimize every tier under symptom relief on the pyramid before that can happen.

No one step or tier is more important than the other. Some people will come in already having the foundations of health in place and are ready to start higher on the pyramid or skip to another area of wellness that needs to be addressed – some people need stronger interventions from the get-go as we work to reduce the need for them together – some people will need these strong interventions for a lifetime – it’s all individual and the goal is to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
