Manual Therapy
Dr Egan uses a manual touch therapy called Structural Integration (SI), which may seem like a form of deep tissue massage to the patient receiving the treatment, but includes active patient movement during treatment. It is a very dynamic treatment that involves the patient actively moving as she works to release layers of adhesion (glueing) between the connective tissue (fascia) of the body. The work is aimed to remobilize muscles, bone, and connective tissue layers so that your body feels physically supported and free to move in a balanced manor.
The goal of treatment is for you to leave the appointment feeling more connected to your movement, balanced, and agile than when you came in.
What is Structural Integration
Structural Integration focuses on treating a connective tissue called fascia. Forming a continuous interconnected system, fascia is the most prevalent type of connective tissue in the human body. Fascia connects skin to underlying tissues; weaves through and encapsulates muscle, connects muscle to bone, encompasses the joints, separates organs; essentially it holds everything together.
Structural integration is a manual touch therapy that specifically works to individualize the areas of the body so they have the capability of serving their specific function and better preform their designed movement pattern. The goal is to realign the body to work in harmony with gravity and support the transfer of motion through the body as a whole.
